Mulmar Home

This is a new sustainable vacation home situated in the hills of Mulmur Township.  The building is located to maximize solar gain in the winter and roof shading in the summer, while blocking the winds from the North / West.  Views of the surrounding landscape are framed through specific window placement, and the entry is shielded from drifting snow. The building’s red metal roof, sloping to match the field in which it sits, is the first thing you see as you are driving up from the road.  The envelope is well insulated; the exposed concrete slab acts as a heat sink and steps up from the attached garage, to the main level, to the bedrooms; heating is provided by biomass, with propane radiant in floor as a back up.
