Purdon Drive
This project involved the partial renovation of a large two storey home, built into a slope overlooking a ravine. The existing basement included a large indoor swimming pool, with views and a walk-out to the garden and the forest beyond. The original house had been a bungalow built in the 1970’s, but, having undergone at least four separate additions and renovations under various owners, we were forced to deal with a several legacy conditions in our attempts to merge the various phases of work into a coherent layout and stylistic whole, both inside and out.
The current owners had recently renovated the front of the ground floor to add a second storey study over a two car attached garage, and to introduce a contemporary open concept entry and living space. Our work was to pull this contemporary “Japanese” design feeling throughout the rest of the ground floor, including the kitchen, the bedrooms, and principal bedroom suite. Primary drivers were to maximize views and glazing at the back on both levels towards the ravine, to raise ceiling heights, and to simplify the layouts by incorporating a lot of custom built-in cabinetry and furniture.
