Georgian Peaks Chalet – Town of Blue Mountains
This project involved the construction of a new, 2 storey chalet on a steeply sloping property, with views of Georgian Bay over the trees to the North. The simple, Scandinavian design allowed for a street level entry on the upper level, containing connected kitchen, dining and living rooms, with open views from front to back, as well a master suite. The lower level contained a mudroom, two bedrooms, and a large recreation room which had the potential of converting to a third bedroom and family room if required. Both floors had access to large decks at the back. The structure was built of exposed timber framing and structural insulated panels, with vaulted cathedral ceilings on the upper level. Both floors had in-floor radiant heating. A central wood burning fireplace was located between the dining and living rooms. Massive poured concrete retaining walls built into the slope were required to retain the front terrace and parking area.
The owners were very involved in the conceptual design of the chalet, as well as in the interior design and selection of furnishings.
